Philosophy of Production, Wine, Labels – Everything is Unique in Palčić Winery

The vineyards of the Palčić Winery from Novigrad spread over 14 hectares. Under the Istrian sun we have malvasia and teran, native varieties of this region, which are taken with a different and unique philosophy of winemaking specific only to the Palčić Winery.

For example, the first Croatian frizzante was created in the Palčić cellar, a light sparkling wine, a blend of teran vinified as white wine and malvasia. As the Palčić Winery loves to define it, it is something in between classic sparkling wine and light summer wine.

The specificity of this winery is certainly the label, which is considered the most original in our country. The chosen logo reminds the radiation sign, but it actually symbolizes the four elements – water, fire, earth and air, while the inverted red triangle is a clear symbol of Istria and the red soil. In addition, these wines are made unique by barcode on the bottle indicating the vine growing plot. By scanning the label it is easy to find out at which location the vineyards are situated, as well as the altitude.

Malvasia and teran of the Palčić Winery are truly amazing so it is not surprising that most of the wines produced are distributed in Italy and Austria, where they can be found in the most prestigious restaurants and wine shops. Palčić merlot, which has been aged in different barrels for four years, is truly unique. It is dry, it seems sweet in the mouth, and are dominated by vanilla and chocolate aromas. On the other hand, malvasia requires fullness in the mouth therefore in the Palčić Winery malvasia is kept on yeast until March, without decanting.

That is why the Plačić Winery likes to describe this most popular Istrian white variety as “red wine dressed in white”. Their goal is, among other things, to show that malvasia is not a wine for just one year. We could go further and tell many similar peculiarities, but the above is enough to prove that the Palčić Winery is one of the most special in Croatia, a winery whose story is yet to be told.
