The young winemaker Damir Mihelić, who learned the craft while studying in Gorica and then returned to his hometown to continue the tradition of his ancestors, is the heart of this Novigrad winery. Ghira Winery was named after the family nickname, and in addition to black Ghira, a blend of merlot, teran and cabernet sauvignon, it also produces a very specific malvasia whose 14% in alcohol makes it “stronger” and completely different in style from most of today’s fresh and fluttery malvasia wines. Malvasia Madura is aged in an amphora (terracotta toscana). It comes from vineyards overgrown with indigenous grasses and nettles, where our bees buzz all around and horses clear the way to the vines.
